CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF ADU PROFESSIONALS

Thinking "small" can solve a big problem in our state.

From guest houses, garages and basements to granny flats and "mother-in-law units," Accessory Dwelling Units (or ADUs for short) – are an old idea whose time has come.

Officially small houses or apartments co-located on the property of a single family residence, ADUs not only offer a uniquely sustainable solution to California’s projected statewide housing shortage (a McKinsey & Co. study forecasts our state needs to add 3.5 million new housing units over the next seven years); they represent an increasingly lucrative opportunity for home buyers and sellers to maximize the price and long-term value of their property, while expanding affordable and flexible housing options for seniors and people of all ages.

In addition to advocating for ADU-friendly regulations and legislation at the city, state and local levels, the California Association of ADU Professionals is committed to providing education, training and certification for all those involved in the ADU process – Realtors, Contractors, Architects, Investors and Home Owners, Buyers and Sellers.

WORKSHOPS & TRAININGS

BECOME A CERTIFIED ADU SPECIALIST

The signature offering of the CA Association of ADU Professionals, this course is designed to provide real estate professionals with an introduction to history and current status of accessory dwelling units: the market conditions that have made them desirable, current State and Local laws, as well as impacts from accessory dwelling units on specific property valuations.

Locally focused and area-specific, it includes the most  up-to-date information about current California State and municipal rules and regulations that permit or restrict ADU development. By the completion of the course a realtor will feel confident in consulting with a client or potential client about units or potential units on their property or on a property they might wish to purchase.

Upon completion of the course and a certification exam, participants will be awarded a Certified ADU Specialist designation by the CA Association of ADU Professionals, and are eligible for listing on the organization website.  DRE Continuing Education Credits are also available (pending approval).
